Luoghi di interesse
Cape Otway Lighthouse
Cape Otway Lighthouse is the oldest surviving lighthouse on mainland Australia and considered the most significant. This leading attraction on the Great Ocean Road is a must for all visitors.
Built in 1848, the lighthouse known as the ‘Beacon of Hope,’ sits 90 metres above the pristine ocean of Bass Strait.
The light was first lit in 1848 using a first order Fresnel lens; it was the second lighthouse completed on mainland Australia and it remains the oldest surviving lighthouse in mainland Australia. It was decommissioned in January 1994 after being the longest continuous operating light on the Australian mainland.
During winter to spring, the lighthouse is a vantage point for land-based whale watching as migrating whales swim very close to shores.
Great Ocean Walk
The Great Ocean Walk is a walking trail located on the Great Ocean Road region between Apollo Bay and the iconic Twelve Apostles, traversing several areas of historical and cultural significance. The trail meanders along high cliff tops and sandy beaches for more than 100km.
Official Great Ocean Walk Maps and Brochures are available for purchase at surrounding certified Visitor Information Centres. Certified Visitor Information Centres are indicated by the yellow and blue 'i' signs and are located in Lorne, Apollo Bay and Port Campbell.
