In recent years our motel has been extensively renovated and upgraded. Integral to this has been a commitment to lower our impact on the environment in every part of our operations. This is a continuing development at The International; the following are important points along the way
Water
We minimise water consumption across the whole property without effecting the comfort of guests with flow control equipment combined with AAA rated tapware and toilets.
Guests on longer stays control their linen changes. All linen is processed on site with modern Miele washer and gas dryer. The washer minimizes water consumption and also extracts most moisture, so drying time is fast and uses less gas.
We do not water gardens at The International. We favour drought tolerant mostly native plants and mulch all gardens. Extensive areas of lawn at the rear of the property thrive on Apollo Bay’s ground water
Electricity and gas
All external lighting uses fluorescent tubes or low voltage LED systems. In guest rooms we employ modern enviro lighting systems and low energy down lights. We use modern Fujitsu split system units for heating and cooling. All buildings are of double brick construction, internal walls covered in plaster, and roof spaces fully insulated.
Chemicals
We use biodegradable washing agents in our commercial laundry. Amounts are controlled by specific software and injected automatically. These measures meet appropriate Australian Standards. In guest bathrooms we minimize chemical cleaners by using a commercial steam cleaner. This method produces a sparkling bathroom which is hygienically clean and free of chemical odours.
